About Masterclass for Church Counsellors

It didn’t used to be the norm. But now believers are jumping off the bridge and are swallowing poisonous substances and taking their lives. Mental health issues and depression is on the rise. This was made even more so by the disruption brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. What about the spiraling high divorce rates among young Christian couples and also physical abuse? How about the different kinds of addictions that Christians are dealing with? This Masterclass serves as an eye-opener for church leaders and counsellors with respect to obvious and not so obvious trends and will also provide know how and techniques in engaging with same.

Focus

This session focus on how to counsel and with engage persons who have been abused, persons contending with addictions. It will also cover the reality of mental health challenges, how the church can engage with talking therapies in dealing with anxiety, depression and suicidal inclinations.

Confirmed Speakers

Rev. Christie Bature

Rev. Christie Bature is the CEO, 180 Degrees Rehabilitation Centre.

She has been helping people for the past 30 years to find balance in their lives. With extensive training under EU/UNODC, she’s a certified mentor and life coach, a licensed polygrapher, a member of the American Association of Christian Counsellors and holds a postgraduate diploma in Crisis and Trauma Management. She’s also a member of the American Association of Sexual Addictions Therapists.

Pastor Lekan Wellington Adegunwa

Pastor Lekan is a certified mental health first aid trainer / instructor. He is qualified to train people to become mental first aiders in their organization. He holds a Masters in leadership and is also a John Maxwell certified speaker. He currently serves as lead pastor at The Reconciliation Ministries (TRM Church) Preston in the United Kingdom.
